Great Global Climate Wake-Up Call

Ring ring!  On Monday, September 21st leaders around the world are going to be hit with a serious wake-up call as Global

climate-wake-up-call1Flashmobs spring to action at 12:18pm (local time) in a city or town near you.  The goal - to pressure our leaders to make lasting commitments in Copenhagen.

Alarms and cell phones will be going off everywhere while emails and calls are made to key decision makers in the UN Climate Summit. With 1,500 events planned worldwide this is going to be a massive event that politicians will not be able to ignore. The timing is crucial – the UN General Assembly is being held in New York the next day with one of the main topics of focus being the financing of climate change programs. The flashmobs are coming just a week after Greenpeace activists hit up the tar sands to draw attention to the devastating impact they’re having on our environment and to send a targeted message to Obama during his meeting with Harper.

We’re going to see a flurry of activity in these next few months leading up to Copenhagen. Combined, these actions will send an undeniable signal to world leaders that the public is hungry for change and won’t stand for weak deals and false promises in Copenhagen.

Take the full lunch hour you’re entitled to on Monday and be part of this historical rally. To find a flashmob location near you check out this link.

I’m going to call my MP - Gerrard Kennedy - on Monday and tell him I expect more from the Liberals on this issue as well. It is time for Canadians to make sure Michael Ignatieff hears from his caucus that his stance on the tar sand may be in line with what Ed Stelmach wants, but it’s not what the majority of Canadians want.

Let you MP know that you want them to take action on climate change. Look up your MP and send them a message on Monday. http://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/campaigns/kyotoplus/pledge
