Harper Hopes to Sell Reactors to India

greenpeace-protests-in-front-o1International Trade Minister Stockwell Day is in India today trying to sell Canadian reactors on behalf of the Harper government. After India used Canadian nuclear technology in 1974 to make an atomic bomb, Canada cut off support for India’s nuclear programme.

Following the lead of the out-going Bush administration, however, the the Harper government has re-opened nuclear relations with India, hoping it can make money at the expense of international efforts to control nuclear arms proliferation.
